A project Reference:

The European Space Agency is analyzing the possibility of replacing the intra-spacecraft communication cable by wireless links in order to reduce and optimize the weight of the satellites.

On this scope ERZIA was a team member of the consortium leaded by Oerlikon Space (Actual RUAG Space), that implemented the low-rate communication network with a series of wireless devices connecting sensors to uRTU, OBC and other simulated satellite devices. The complete system was mounted on a Venus Express mock-up in order to demonstrate the functionality, with excellent final results.

ERZIA's role on this project was to:

• Study of the suitability of the Bluetooth stack for satellite data network
• Design and integration of a simulated wireless uRTU with several sensors attached
• Design and integration of several wireless clients to connect simulated satellite instruments to the network
• Wireless network design, implementation, and configuration.
